Clock Makers Of Devon

We are delighted to introduce our speaker for our October meeting, David Thompson, who will give a talk on:
‘Clockmakers of Devon
Tuesday, October 14th at 7.30 pm. (Doors Open 7 pm) in The Mayoralty Room, Tiverton Town Hall.
All are welcome. The charge for non-members is £5

"Turret clocks in church towers, precision timekeepers at sea, lantern and longcase clocks as well as table clocks and watches. Over the centuries the clock and watchmakers of Devon have made and sold them all. David Thompson’s illustrated talk will look at the people and their work from the medieval period to the late 19th century."

David Thompson is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and a Freeman of the City of London. He was Curator of Horology at the British Museum for over 30 years, and he has written several books on clocks and watches. Many Devon towns, including Tiverton, have a long and distinguished history of clockmaking.
