Grounding Healing Through the Elements and Symbolic Play

This training introduces clinicians to the integration of natural elements—earth, water, fire, and air—within sand tray therapy to support emotional regulation, trauma recovery, and sensory grounding. Participants will explore how nature-based symbols such as trees, rivers, stones, and animals can reflect internal states, foster resilience, and promote deep healing. With an emphasis on eco-psychology and somatic awareness, this approach encourages the creation of healing landscapes that mirror the cycles of growth, transformation, and renewal found in the natural world.

• Identify the therapeutic benefits of integrating natural elements into sand tray therapy for children, adolescents, and adults.
• Describe the symbolic meaning of earth, water, fire, and air within clinical sand tray work.
• Apply at least three nature-based prompts to support emotional regulation, trauma processing, or grief work.
• Demonstrate the ability to incorporate nature-based materials (e.g., stones, feathers, branches) into sand tray scenes with clinical intention.
• Evaluate the role of eco-symbolism and somatic awareness in supporting client safety and nervous system regulation during therapy.
• Design a nature-based sand tray experience that supports connection to inner resilience and environmental grounding.
