Discover the Ancient Art of Pysanky

Join us for an immersive, hands-on workshop exploring the traditional Ukrainian art of Pysanky — intricately decorated Easter eggs created using a centuries-old wax-resist technique.

Dating back long before pens and paper were widely accessible in Eastern Europe, Pysanky were a powerful form of storytelling. Symbols and patterns were used to convey protection, renewal, fertility, hope, and faith. Each egg carries meaning, intention, and tradition.

In this beginner-friendly class, you will be guided step-by-step through the entire process — from design planning to the final wax reveal.

What You’ll Learn
• The cultural history and symbolism behind traditional Pysanky
• An introduction to the tools of the craft, including the kistka (wax stylus)
• How to choose and map out a meaningful design
• The traditional wax-resist layering process using multiple dye baths
• Techniques for safely removing wax to reveal your finished egg

No prior experience is necessary. This workshop is designed to provide you with both the foundational skills and the confidence to continue refining your practice at home.

What You’ll Take Home
• Your own completed Ukrainian Pysanka
• A printed handout with instructions, resources, and supply recommendations
• A deeper understanding of this ancient art form
• The experience of participating in a meaningful cultural tradition

All materials are provided, including eggs, dyes, wax, and specialized tools. Just bring your creativity, patience, and curiosity.
