Plant Propagation Thursdays - Volunteer Nursery Event

Join us for a short, 3 hour focus on native plant volunteer work where you'll learn a little, and help a lot! Meeting at the Rancho Sierra Vista native plant nursery, Propagation Thursdays focus on one or 2 specific plant species every week, and is best suited for folks who are looking to improve their native plant horticultural and growing skills. Activities will change every week and depend on the season, but may include:

- Preparing and sticking plant cuttings

- Transplanting young rooted cuttings into containers

- Learning, mixing and applying various soil mixes and fertilizers

- Cleaning recent conservation seed collections

- Counting and Treating/ Preparing Seed for sowing

- Learning to transplant more 'delicate' native plant seedlings

- Plants to be worked on may include various species of native Milkweed, Dudleyas, Monkeyflowers, Sages, Manzanitas and many more

Volunteer hours begin at 9am, and go thru 12pm. Arrive anytime between 9am and 10am for best experience.

This volunteer work will take place outdoors at the Rancho Sierra Vista nursery. Much of the work can take place under shade, but volunteers should be prepared to stand for at least 2 hours and be exposed to the cold and sun for various lengths of time. Please wear hiking or outdoor working attire, bring water/reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and a sun hat. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 1. Park in the final, bottom, lower visitor parking lot: Car Park for Sycamore Canyon

2. Walk past the left side of the bathrooms, past the Eucalyptus grove.

3. Walk into and past the horse stable area, and into Rancho Sierra Vista Nursery.

From the Ventura Fwy (101) to Lynn Rd exit. South on Lynn Rd 5.25 miles to Via Goleta. Park entrance is on the left.
