Embark on an extraordinary waterfall adventure in Ragia, a hidden gem within the Aberdare forest ecosystem. Immerse yourself in the enchanting bamboo garden, where towering trees create a serene backdrop for your journey. Ragia, nestled in Lari sub county of Kiambu county, is just 90 km north of Nairobi, making it an ideal destination for a day trek. Accessible from the Flyover-Magumu-Njabini road, this magical forest borders Kieni forest to the East, Kinangop plateau to the West, Kamae forest to the south, and Kinangop forest to the North.
Managed by the Kenya Forest Service, Ragia spans 4250.21 hectares, offering a rich tapestry of flora and fauna. The Ragia circuit kicks off at Sasumua Dam through Chinas camp gate, leading you deep into thick bamboo. Follow elephant trails down the valley to the pipeline leave way, where a steep drop unveils Sasumua River and the awe-inspiring waterfall, known as no. 18. Continue on a sharp descent back to the pipeline way, revealing cascading waterfalls and the legendary Mau Mau cave, once a strategic planning hub for figures like Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi and General China.
As the trail winds through the thick bamboo forest, you'll traverse a forest road, completing the 18km circuit in approximately 6-7 hours. Rated as a moderate hike, Ragia promises an unforgettable experience for those seeking the perfect blend of nature, adventure, and history. Join us on this unparalleled waterfall chase, where the beauty of Ragia unfolds with every step, calming your mind and rejuvenating your soul.
