Join us for a day of fun, learning, and community at the 2nd Annual “Reach the Roots” Kinloch Farm Tour, held at our family farm in The Plains, Virginia. We hope you’ll visit for an inside look at our regenerative farm and conservation efforts while enjoying a variety of family-friendly activities. Here’s some of the highlights:
🚜 Hayride Tour: Take a scenic hayride through our pastures and riparian areas to see our cattle grazing and understand how we protect our waterways.
🌱Regenerative and Adaptive Grazing: Learn about our regenerative farming practices with hands-on demonstrations of our specialized equipment and tools.
Hear about our unique genetics and grazing strategies that produce our delicious grass fed beef.
🐂 Epigenetic Program: See our cows, calves, and bulls firsthand and learn why our genetic selection process is so important as we co-create a resilient ecosystem alongside our cattle.
👩🍳 Eat Strong with Chef Ryan Ross: Explore the pivotal role that nutrient dense foods play in human health and nutrition. Chef Ryan Ross will feature two recipes at cooking demos at 12:00 and 1:00 where she will explain this in more detail and how our phytonutrient rich grassfed beef plays a role in a diet centered around foods that are nutritionally balanced.
🔥 Food from Open Fire Catering: Open Fire Catering honors the flavors and textures of local ingredients, like our beef, and during the event will showcase their craft
while offering food to enjoy on site.
🎶 Live Music: Enjoy live music from the Ribbon Rail Ramblers, whose homegrown Appalachian fingerpicking style and love of old-school country music were formed
right down the road.
🌎 Ecological Restoration and Our Conservation Program: Discover our
conservation efforts including Piedmont savanna reconstruction and oak woodland restoration. We’ll discuss our management techniques and how they impact our ecosystem. We use prescribed burning and grazing, control of invasive plants, and seeding of native plants as a part of our restoration program. You’ll be able to see how we clean collected seed from our native seed production as well as examples of the native plants we’re using at Kinloch. (Burn gear, blue bird and kestrel boxes, native plants will be on display).
🍯 Honey Making and Tasting: See inside a live beehive and hear from our master beekeepers about the importance of honeybees on our farm, then taste a sample of our “Perfectly Raw Honey.”
🛝 Children’s Play Area: Let the kids explore life on a farm in our haybale play area featuring a fort and an awesome straw tunnel.
🛒 Farm Store: Our shop is located at the nearby Archwood Green Barns and open until 6pm. Stop by to pick up your favorite cuts of beef and other groceries on your way home.
All of this, and more, is set on our working farm with picturesque vistas of Virginia’s Hunt Country.
