Start the new year off right with a hike to the iconic Hoodoos Trailhead along the parks river district on River Road FM170.
Celebrate the new year and a fresh start with a hike to one of Big Bend Ranch State Park's favorite overlooks. The Hoodoos trailhead is an easy to moderate 1.4-mile loop, that spurs off to an overlook. There are multiple difficulties of trails ranging from easy - moderate. Trip hazards, snakes, and additional hazards are possible. Following the 1-hour hike, guests can enjoy some tamales and traditional borderland cookies- Biscochos and hot chocolate at the picnic tables at the trailhead.
Bring: Water, snacks.
Wear: Layers, hiking boots/shoes, and a hat.
Optional: Binoculars, hiking stick, camera, and a map.
Cost: Program is free with your purchase of day use entrance fees, $5.00 for adults, and children under 12 are free. You can use your TSPP to waive your entrance fee pass. Obtained passes at the Fort Leaton SHS or Barton Warnock VC.
Meet: At the Hoodoos trailhead located approximately 22 miles from Fort Leaton State Historic Site and 25.2 miles from Barton Warnock Visitor Center. The closest restrooms will be at the Closed Canyon trailhead, about 3 miles from the Hoodoos trailhead.
