About the event

Building Your Financial Future
Free financial literacy trainings from the Native Arts + Cultures Foundation (NACF) and the ASU Herberger Institute for Design & the Arts.

About this Event

Event Overview:

Native Arts + Cultures Foundation (NACF), in partnership with ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, will host two free financial literacy trainings for students and the broader creative community.

Attendees can choose between an afternoon and evening session; both sessions include the full program, so attendees only need to attend one to receive the complete training. Each session will include two parts: Financial Literacy for Artists and Arts Workers led by arts financial advisor Tamara Bates and Simplifying Artist Taxes led by tax expert Dr. Elaine Grogan Luttrull, CPA-PFS, AFC.

A mixer between sessions will create space for community-building and support among artists and creatives. Each session will include time for Q&A.

Financial Literacy for Artists and Arts Workers

Managing money in a way that truly supports your work can feel overwhelming, especially in unpredictable economic times. Whether you’re navigating uneven income, short-term financial planning, or the uncertainty of long-term stability, this workshop will give you the tools to maintain agency over your earnings and bolster your financial confidence. Join Tamara Bates, financial coach, to learn essential financial strategies made specifically with artists in mind.

About Tamara Bates:

Tamara Bates has worked as a financial advisor for UBS and Raymond James and has extensive training in financial planning. Tamara also has two decades of nonprofit experience. In 2020, Tamara founded a financial coaching program for artists called the dots between, which has served hundreds of creatives across the country.

Simplifying Artist Taxes

Dr. Elaine Grogan Luttrull will answer key tax questions that come up for artists and creatives. Whether you are curious about changes from the 2025 tax legislation, figuring out tax obligations for people you pay, estimating your own taxes, or deciding on retirement contributions, taxes will be an ongoing part of your creative life.

About Dr. Elaine Grogan Luttrull:

Dr. Elaine Grogan Luttrull, CPA-PFS, AFC® (she/her), is the founder of Minerva Financial Arts, a company devoted to building financial literacy and empowerment in creative individuals through education and coaching. Elaine is the author of Arts & Numbers (Agate, B2 2013), and she contributes regularly to industry guides.
