You’re invited to a special ribbon-cutting ceremony as we welcome "The Abraham" - a full-scale replica of a pioneer-era flatboat to Perry County!
Flatboats were essential to America’s westward expansion, with over three million pioneers traveling into the Midwest by way of the Ohio River, then the only viable “highway” to the western frontier. The Abraham pays tribute to this legacy, specifically commemorating the journey made by a young Abraham Lincoln in 1828, when he and his friend Allen Gentry transported goods by flatboat from Spencer County to New Orleans.
This visit marks an early step in a larger initiative to reenact that historic voyage in time for its 200th anniversary in 2028. We encourage our members of the Perry County Chamber and friends to attend and help us celebrate this unique moment in our local history!
📍 Location: 347 Main Street 📅 Date: Friday, August 8 ⏰ Time: 10:00 AM
The Abraham is a project of Scenic Lincoln Way, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting tourism through Perry County’s natural assets—its waterways, railways, and trails.
