Each winter, the rising of Matāriki—the cluster of stars also known as Pleiades—marks the beginning of the Māori New Year. This sacred time invites us to pause, honour our loved ones who have passed, give thanks for the gifts of the year gone by, and dream into the future.
This year, the Matāriki public holiday coincides closely with the winter solstice, the longest night of the year—a powerful moment of stillness and turning inward. Both occasions remind us to slow down, return to what truly matters, and plant the seeds of new intentions.
In te ao Māori, Matāriki is a time of deep connection—to whānau, to the land, and to the stars above. It’s a chance to reflect, release, and realign with the cycles of nature.
To honour this special season, you’re warmly invited to a free 1-hour mini-quest in nature. We’ll walk slowly, reflect quietly, and listen deeply—to the land, to the sky, and to our own inner wisdom. Through simple guided practices, you’ll be supported to release what’s ready to fall away and gently sow the seeds of new beginnings.
Haere mai! All are welcome.
