Edge of Intention
Edge of Intention showcases a new body of work by Incubator resident artist Shona Mackenzie. Reflecting her enduring fascination with paper and ongoing exploration of material, process, and abstraction, each work depicts a unique sense of place. Shona invites the viewer to connect their own memories to her abstract landscapes shaped by process and intuition.
Each work in the collection developed organically as a conversation between artist and paper. Monotype prints, painted textures, and paper fragments are pulled together and guided by form, balance, and contrast rather than by any pre-planned outcomes. This approach gives the work a sense of openness where intention and accident meet.
Paper plays a central role -not just as a surface, but as a medium with history, fragility, and strength. Through tearing, layering, and assembling, the artist explores how physical materials can hold history, emotion, and memory.
The works in Edge of Intention sit between construction and deconstruction, order and spontaneity—landscapes shaped not by geography, but by the evolving rhythm of process.
