AN EVENING WITH EQUINE ETHOLOGIST SAMANTHA COUPER & EQUINE BEHAVIOUR CONSULTANT JUSTINE HARRISON
Join us for an informative and thought-provoking evening exploring the behaviour and needs of horses — from the wild plains to our domestic yards.
In the first part of the evening, equine ethologist Sam Couper will share her insights into natural horse behaviour, based on her research and observations of wild and free-living horses. You’ll also enjoy stunning film footage of wild mustangs, giving a unique glimpse into how horses behave when living freely in their natural environment.
In the second half of the evening, equine behaviour consultant Justine Harrison will explore how understanding natural horse behaviour can help us recognise the challenges that domestic life can bring for our horses. She’ll explain how this knowledge allows us to make practical changes — big or small — to improve welfare, reduce stress, and better support the horses in our care.
You will learn:
• how wild horses behave and live in their natural environment
• the behavioural needs of all horses — both wild and domestic
• how domestic life can conflict with these natural needs
• common reasons behaviour problems occur in domestic settings
• simple, practical ways to reduce stress and improve welfare
