Our Beginner’s Digital Photography Class is designed for those who own an entry-level camera—whether it’s a basic point-and-shoot, DSLR or mirrorless—but aren’t quite sure how to move beyond the “Auto” setting.
In this relaxed and welcoming class sponsored by the New Kensington Camera Club, we’ll help you understand the essential controls that make great photography possible. You’ll learn how settings like aperture (lens opening), shutter speed, and ISO (sensor sensitivity) work together, how to gain creative control over your images, and how to start using your camera with confidence. No technical background is required—just bring your camera, your curiosity, and a desire to learn.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of your camera’s capabilities and the confidence to start exploring photography beyond automatic mode.
Whether your goal is capturing better travel photos, family moments, or simply growing your creative skills, this class will give you the foundation to begin your photographic journey. 📸
In this class, you will:
*Learn the basic functions of your camera so you can begin to shoot in manual mode, capturing higher-quality images of the people and places around you.
*Learn about manual mode, the exposure triangle, depth of field, and much more during this 3-hour, hands-on, camera class taught by a professional photographer.
Students must have a digital camera with either a fixed lens (like a point and shoot) or a camera with interchangeable lenses.
Please bring your camera, a charged battery, SD card, Owner’s Manual, any additional lenses, and any other gear you may have. Bring a notebook and pen to take notes!!
Students will interact and work together to learn about tweaking their camera settings for different scenes and situations. The class is fun, educational, and informative.
