Visualizing galaxy data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)
This Bootcamp introduces students to astrophysics through data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). With support from Kelcey Davis, Graduate student/LANL astrophysicist, students will learn how to analyze data from the JWT to understand galaxies. With Alexandra Cardenas, professional live coder and international artist, students will learn to transform that data as creative source material into live coding for performances. Workshop assistants, Bethany Rivera and Britney King, will guide you in the creation of your own live coding performance.
Participants will work closely with SciArt Live Coding Team:
- Alexandra Cardenas, a leading live coder and composer from Colombia now based in Berlin
- Britney King, Diné / Chippewa-Cree Digital Artist
- Bethany Rivera, AI specialist, Creative Coder
- Kelcey Davis, Graduate student/LANL astrophysicist -sharing data from JWST
- Agnes Chavez, Creative Director/Curator
Students will be introduced to the principles of live coding performance, scientific storytelling, event production and curation, and AI-assisted coding workflows as tools to connect movement, music, and visual rhythm.
