MILLA KUISMA JA VILLE RÄTY: KERROKSET
Kulttuuritalo Laikun Galleria 17.5.-19.6.
Kerrokset on kahden taidemaalarin yhteisnäyttely. Taiteilijat Milla Kuisma ja Ville Räty jakavat työhuoneen, retkieväät ja elämän.
Yhteisen näyttelyn rakentamisessa taiteilijaparia kiinnostaa maalausten rinnastuksista syntyvät kontrastit ja yllättävät yhteydet. Molempien erilliset taiteelliset prosessit punoutuvat yhteen jaettujen kokemusten, keskusteluiden ja toisen keskeneräisten ja valmiiden töiden katsomisen kautta. Kuisman ja Rädyn maalaukset sisältävät konkreettisesti useita päällekkäisiä maalikerroksia, jotka sekä peittävät että paljastavat maalaustapahtumien vaiheita. Kerroksellisuus kiehtoo molempia myös sisällöllisenä lähtökohtana.
Kuisma käsittelee maalauksissaan pysymättömyyden teemaa. Teoksissa on merkkejä ajan kulumisesta ja jatkuvasta muutoksesta. Kollaasinomaisen maalaustavan voi nähdä asioiden ja pintojen yhdistämisenä, mutta myös kuvana hajottamisesta ja luonnollisesta hajoamisesta. Järjestellessään maalausten elementtejä Kuisma on pohtinut tasapainoilua hallinnan ja hallitsemattomuuden välillä. Elämä ei asetu halumme mukaan, vaan versoo, rönsyilee, kuihtuu ja antaa tilaa uudelle.
Rädyn maisemamaalauksissa maailmaa sekä rakennetaan että puretaan. Viimeaikaisissa teoksissa maisema on toiminut mielen metaforana. Horisontti kuvaa rajapintaa tietoisen ja tiedostamattoman välillä. Räty on kiinnittänyt huomionsa erityisesti horisontin alla olevaan tilaan. Maan kerrostumat vertautuvat mielen kerroksiin, niiden liikahduksiin ja järistyksiin.
Osa näyttelyn teoksista on suunniteltu muodostamaan teossarjoja esimerkiksi yhteisen horisonttilinjan kautta. Osan kohdalla teosten välinen vuoropuhelu lähtee liikkeelle näyttelyn ripustuksesta. Galleriatila ja katsojien kokemukset lisäävät omat kerroksensa teoksiin ja niiden maailmoihin.

⭐ Klo 18.30, 19.15 ja 20.15 a capella -yhtye Dominutz esiintyy. Esitykset kestävät noin 15 minuuttia ja niissä kuullaan pop-musiikin klassikkobiisejä.

"Layers" is a joint exhibition by two painters. Artists Milla Kuisma and Ville Räty share a studio, picnic snacks, and life.
In constructing their joint exhibition, the artist pair is interested in the contrasts and surprising connections that arise from the juxtaposition of their paintings. Both of their separate artistic processes intertwine through shared experiences, conversations, and viewing each other's unfinished and completed works. Kuisma's and Räty's paintings concretely contain multiple overlapping layers of paint, which both cover and reveal the stages of the painting events. Layering fascinates both as a content-based starting point.
Kuisma addresses the theme of impermanence in her paintings. The works show signs of the passage of time and constant change. The collage-like painting style can be seen as a combination of things and surfaces, but also as an image of disintegration and natural decay. In arranging the elements of the paintings, Kuisma has contemplated the balance between control and uncontrollability. Life does not conform to our desires but sprouts, spreads, withers, and makes room for the new.
In Räty's landscape paintings, the world is both constructed and dismantled. In recent works, the landscape has served as a metaphor for the mind. The horizon depicts the interface between the conscious and the unconscious. Räty has particularly focused on the space below the horizon. The layers of the earth are compared to the layers of the mind, their shifts, and tremors.
Some of the exhibition's works are designed to form series of works, for example, through a shared horizon line. In some cases, the dialogue between the works starts from the exhibition's hanging. The gallery space and the viewers' experiences add their own layers to the works and their worlds.
At the same time in the studio, textile art by Sannu Vaarala.
The exhibitions have open openings at the Museums Night event on Saturday, May 17th.
⭐ 6 PM: Openings of the new exhibitions. The Layers exhibition by Milla Kuisma and Ville Räty opens in the gallery. The Vibrancy exhibition by Sannu Vaarala opens in the studio.
⭐ 6:30 PM, 7:15 PM, and 8:15 PM: A cappella group Dominutz performs. The performances last about 15 minutes and feature classic pop music songs.
Exhibitions will be closed on May 29, 2025. On Midsummer's Eve, the doors will close at 6 PM.
