The Trail to Oregon! is an original musical produced by Starkid Productions and was performed in Chicago in the summer of 2014. It is also the most historically accurate musical portraying the Oregon Trail - the game - to date; featuring 12 "educational" songs, a set precisely replicating the trail’s landscape, and appearances from famous historical figures, such as: Henry McDoon, Cletus Jones, and Cornwallis. The show will change every night - not only does the audience get to name the family, but they will also decide the ultimate fate of one of our travelers!
Please prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song for your audition. It is preferred, but not required, that it be in the same style as the musical. Please bring a backing track with you on a thumb drive or on your phone, we WILL NOT have a piano accompaniment at auditions.
There will be six roles available:
Father (Male presenting, age flexible) - Main push of the show and must be comfortable interacting with the audience. Kind of dumb but loves his family
Mother (Female presenting, age flexible) - Tired of her husband messing things up, but loves him anyway. Hard on the kids but to comedic effect
Daughter (Female presenting, young look) - Pretends to try and be grown up, but really doesn't know how. Thinks she knows what love is.
Son (Female presenting but will be male presenting, young look) - Female presenting playing a roughly 6 y/o boy. Curious but dumb as kids are. Creates some of the funniest situations in the show.
Grandpa, Cletus Jones (Male presenting, age flexible) - Wise but starting to lose it a little. Will get lost but wants to help the family. Has lobster related trauma.
McDoon, Everyone Else (No gender preference, age flexible) - The most manic role in the show, must be able to play multiple different style characters, some with very short turnaround.
All roles will be paid!
The production will run from 1/29/26 to 2/15/26, with shows on Thursday-Saturday at 8PM and Sunday at 3PM. Rehearsals will start once cast is set.
The show will be directed by Zach "Hippie" Griswold, who directed award winning productions of The Wedding Singer the Musical and Young Frankenstein the Musical.
