Overview:
We seek volunteers to help us participate in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census with the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County.
During the pollinator count, we will observe garden plants and count the number of insect landings per plant. Before the count, we will go over basic insect ID and teach you how to look for different pollinators such as bees and wasps.
No entomology experience required - this is a fun way to learn about insects and help track pollinator populations. Data from the census will be uploaded into the University of Georgia pollinator count portal. Kids welcome!
Prior to the count, you may want to review the insect counting and ID guide:
GSePC-Counting-Guide.pdf
Each participant will receive a free packet of pollinator flower seeds.
Please note: Call or email Nicole Pinson, bnBpbnNvbiB8IGhjbmV0d29yayAhIG9yZw== or 813-459-3831, TFHC Garden Manager, with questions.
Event Location:
The pollinator count begins at 10:00 AM. We will be located in the TFHC Community Garden. You may want to wear sunscreen and a hat as we will be outdoors in the garden.
We have a water cooler and snack machine. Please bring a beverage or your refillable water bottle.
Partners:
This event is brought to you through a partnership with Tampa Family Health Centers, the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County Master Gardener Volunteer Program, and the USDA-NRCS.
