FILM SYNOPSIS:
First, envision a world in which collegiate a capella singing clubs benefit from the same rabid fandom and cultural gravitas that college football teams receive in our world. Now meet Beca (Anna Kendrick), an aspiring music producer with no real interest in college, who’s planning to spend a year at Barden College (paid for by her father, a professor) just to broaden her horizons a bit. And now, through the magic of the movies, follow Beca as she is recruited by the desperate Barden Bellas, an all-female a capella group on campus and the archrivals of the all-male Treblemakers, as they attempt to improve on their terrible performance at last year’s international a capella championship.
Also starring Tampa’s own Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Skylar Austin and Ben Platt, Pitch Perfect is the classic underdog college-competition bildungsroman (see also Bring It On, Drumline) filtered through the surprisingly drama-drenched perspective of a capella and, thanks to a hot and extremely 2012 soundtrack, the jukebox musical. It was a gigantic surprise hit that led to a whole trilogy, which should tell you it’s the sort of movie you don’t watch sitting quietly with your hands folded. And for this special presentation in our first-ever REWIND Rave-Along series, we don’t want you to. Tampa Theatre is not going to enforce our normal rules on sitting down and being quiet during these screenings. Instead, we’re having a party!
