One of the most outrageously funny shows in the history of Carrollwood Players is BACK, with a holiday twist! What happens when a group of actors walks onto the stage to perform a comedy they’ve never heard of?
In Play it By Ear, our actors have NO advance knowledge of the play they must perform. In fact, no one knows what might happen until the audience chooses one of several colored boxes containing scripts for several plays.
The only thing that’s certain is that all of the possible plays have a holiday theme. And they are all fun!
With the help of a stage full of props and costumes that might come in handy, our cast will perform whatever play the audience chooses ON THE SPOT.
Will the play be about Thanksgiving? Christmas? Hanukkah? New Year’s Eve? Nobody knows!
Don’t miss this wild evening of experimental theater that is sure to be a laugh riot!

Performers and some production volunteers/crew MUST be available for all tech week rehearsals and all performances. There are no exceptions! You MUST complete the online sign-up form in advance to attend this audition or be considered for production volunteer opportunities.

IMPORTANT: If you have SIGNIFICANT conflicts between auditions and tech week, please carefully consider whether or not you are in a position to participate in this production. We are looking for performers who are AVAILABLE and COMMITTED to this production.
Please take care to complete the conflict section of the form accurately and completely. Casting and staffing decisions and rehearsal schedules are based in part on information you provide about potential conflict dates.
Rehearsals:
The exact rehearsal schedule is to be determined, but rehearsals are usually 2 days per week, mostly weekday nights, but there may be rehearsals on Saturdays in the daytime and/or Sundays in the evening. Weekday evening rehearsals generally begin at 7 p.m. and can last as late as 10 p.m. (possibly later during tech week) Sunday evening rehearsals generally begin at 6 p.m. and can last as late as 10 p.m. There will be a total of approximately 12 rehearsals for this production.
The rehearsal schedule intensifies as opening night draws closer. Tech week rehearsals often run later into the evening.
No experience is necessary. All roles are open. All ethnicities, identities and abilities are strongly encouraged to audition for any and all roles. This is a non-paid opportunity.

Casting:
Have you ever had that nightmare where it’s the day of the show, you’re about to go on stage, and you realize you have no idea what play you’re doing? If you have then this is the show for you!
Before each of our four performances, the audience will vote on a box containing scripts that the cast and production crew have no prior knowledge of. The actors get the scripts and then it’s time to put on the show!
We are searching for a group of ten diverse adult actors to join us in this incredibly unique experience. Flexibility will be key! Actors should be comfortable playing any age, gender or role.
Come to auditions prepared to be unprepared!
What to Prepare:
Auditions will consist of cold readings and improv activities.

What to expect on your audition date:
We expect a LARGE turnout for auditions, and space is LIMITED. We regret we cannot admit any guests, companions, or observers.
Auditions begin at 7 p.m. and doors will open at 6:45 p.m. IMPORTANT information is covered at the beginning of each session, therefore it is imperative that you are prepared to begin on time. No auditioners will be admitted after 7:05 p.m.
