🏠 Forge History with Us This September at Oconee Station! ⚒️🔥
Set your sights on September 13–14 as the Phillip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Guild brings heat and heritage to the Oconee Station State Historic Site in Walhalla, SC! Some members may arrive on Friday the 12th, with forging likely starting that evening and continuing through the weekend.
🏛️ The Mission:
We’ll be replacing approximately 20 shutter hinges on the historic homes, many originals are worn down, and others were replaced with fabricated versions that don’t reflect traditional blacksmithing methods. Guild members will forge authentic strap hinges using traditional forge welding techniques, honoring the site’s Appalachian Gilded Age architecture.
This isn’t just a project, it’s preservation in action. And it’s a chance for the public to see real history being forged, one glowing hinge at a time.
