Estonian Arnold Schönberg Society + Repoo Ensemble
PARADIGMAD | PARADIGMS
Call for scores/audio files + essays
The Estonian Arnold Schönberg Society in collaboration with the conceptual music theatre ensemble Repoo Ensemble invites composers and composer-musicologist working groups to participate in the project PARADIGMAD, which aims to explore and highlight musical works that address aesthetic, technological and social paradigm shifts in music.
The project understands music as a mirror of society and a means of perception that expresses broader changes. A paradigm shift in music can manifest itself, for example,
- n a changed understanding of the role of the composer and the authorship question of a work,
- in a changing role of the listener,
- in a novel interweaving of aesthetic and ethical values,
- in the impact of technology on music creation and the distribution of music,
- in the changing meaning of sound in public space.
The project combines theoretical research with creative experimentation.
The following can apply:
- composers,
- composer-musicologist-working groups.
We ask to you submit
1. a musical score (PDF) and/or an audio file (WAV, AIFF or B-format),
2. an essay or other written text that explains how the given musical work expresses a paradigm shift.
There is no size limit for musical works or essays, but please note that smaller ensembles and shorter works fit better into the concert program.
The musical work may have been previously performed and the text previously published. The author(s) must confirm that the submitted works are not subject to copyrights of third parties (e.g. publishers).
Deadline: October 1, 2025.
Earlier submission is recommended, as the project is based on dynamic planning.
