In celebration of their 30th anniversary, the Silk Road Dance Company will highlight their most beautiful and beloved choreographies in a free Takoma Park Arts performance.
Attired in exquisite traditional costumes, the award-winning dance company presents traditional and contemporary women’s dances from Afghan, Persian, Uzbek, Kurdish, Uyghur, and other cultures.
Known for the beauty, authenticity, and imagination of their pioneering performances, the dancers offer a unique glimpse into the life and art of little-known cultures, especially those of the Islamic world.
The dance company has performed across the world in Uzbekistan, Qatar, Singapore, Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as at prestigious local venues, including the White House, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and various embassy events.
The company was founded in 1995 by Laurel Victoria Gray, a choreographer, performer, costume designer, and world dance professor. For more info, go to silkroaddance.com.
Doors open at 7 pm, and no tickets or reservations are required. Seating is first come first served. Some limited parking is available at the Community Center and next door at Piney Branch Elementary School.
This event is part of the City of Takoma Park’s Takoma Park Arts series, which includes free concerts, dance, theater, film screenings, and other events at the Takoma Park Community Center.
