在展覽與展覽之間，許多身影、物件與勞動痕跡悄然存在，構成展覽得以成形的基礎，卻常被視線忽略。藝術家王詠翔轉換為觀察展覽背後生成者的角色，如何以視覺形式與藝術家的感性視角，將我們已經習以為常的展覽空間與其背後運作的機制，轉換為視覺語言生產，引發觀看者對於展覽機制生成的思考。
本次座談將以展覽「展間，在此側身」為出發，邀請到獨立策展人兼藝評人 楊佳璇 來到福利社現場與藝術家 王詠翔 進行對談，從展覽現場的背面討論佈展勞動、空間變動、觀看機制，一同回望展覽背後的隱身勞動。
/ 展覽論述 /
我自2018年開始接觸佈展相關的工作，因此平時作為觀眾面向展覽之餘，也在藝術家和幕後工作人員的角色之間切換。這些經驗除了是身份認同的問題，更多是以這些身份意識到的社會困境：我們時常忽略成果以外的事物，包括技術專業的價值、場域的紋理、甚至失敗的嘗試等。這些種種是無數瑣碎的片刻，卻也是成就一件作品、一檔展覽的要角。
「展間，在此側身」，試圖提出「展間」與「側身」的概念，藉由調動觀眾的角色視野，在現今為求績效而密集的展覽排程中，騰出一塊空檔，使我們能慢下來思考，那些在展場裡被遺忘的事物，並使之成為在場的可能。「展間」是指展覽空間的實體，而從時間概念上，展覽期間以及在每檔展覽與展覽之間的空檔，也是「展間」的另一層意思。「側身」的概念則是在佈撤展時，工作人員在展場裡側著身體穿梭在展牆和作品之間，旋轉身體的動作，同時「側身」也是指許多幕後的事物在展覽開始後，被隱身、排除在展覽之外的情境。
在展覽空間的實體中，臨時搭建的隔間、投影背板，既增建又隱身的狀態像是一種側身，刻意抹平和刷白牆壁的紋理、工整放置的線材設備，在整潔的展間背後，也意味著去除種種在場的痕跡，使得空間主體成為側身。另一種側身是在兩檔展覽之間，這段空檔短暫卻也是藝術空間中最忙碌的時刻，在此有許多人、事、物側身穿梭展場，為促成展覽而繁忙。然而在開幕的那一刻，這些幕後身影總是形同陌路的在展覽中消失，彷彿平行線般與展覽側身而過。除此之外，曾經失敗的實驗、未納入展出的遺珠，相對於展場中的作品，也屬於空間裡某種側身的姿態。
綜合所述，這檔展覽藉由「展間」在不同意義的語境下，分別揭露各種「側身」的狀態。從空間與時間概念上展開，在幕後、幕前、觀眾之間調度，關注展場中細微的實存、展覽、勞動與機制，同時也回看空間自身的存在。透過空間構築、動態或靜態影像、聲音、觀念性的作品等，期盼那些側身於展間的缺席，重新在場。
/Discussion /
Since 2018, I have been involved in exhibition installation work, shifting between the roles of an audience, an artist, and a behind-the-scenes exhibition worker. These experiences go beyond questions of identity; they also reveal broader social predicaments—how we often overlook everything beyond the final outcome, including the value of technical expertise, the texture of a space, and even failed attempts. These seemingly trivial and fragmented moments are, in fact, essential to the making of an artwork or an exhibition.
In Between Exhibitions: Those Sidestepping Presences introduces the concepts of "in between exhibitions" and "sidestepping," inviting a shift in perspective. In today’s efficiency-driven exhibition schedules, this project attempts to carve out a pause—a moment to slow down and reflect on the overlooked elements within an exhibition, making space for their presence. "In between exhibitions" refers not only to the physical exhibition space but also to a temporal gap—the duration of an exhibition and the intervals between one exhibition and the next. The notion of "sidestepping" stems from the way installation workers navigate through the space, moving sideways between walls and artworks, twisting their bodies to fit within tight spaces. At the same time, "sidestepping" also describes how many behind-the-scenes processes and figures vanish once an exhibition opens, excluded from the final presentation.
Within the exhibition space, temporary partitions and projection screens exist in a state of both construction and concealment—an embodiment of sidestepping. The act of smoothing and repainting walls, tidying up cables, and ensuring a seamless presentation all contribute to an erasure of traces, pushing the space itself into the background. Another form of sidestepping occurs in the brief yet intense interval between exhibitions. During this time, countless people, actions, and objects move through the space in preparation, yet once the exhibition opens, these figures disappear, passing by the exhibition like parallel lines that never intersect. Beyond this, failed experiments and works left out of the final selection also exist in a sidestepping state—present yet unseen, relative to the exhibited works.
By exploring different interpretations of "in between exhibitions," this exhibition seeks to uncover various forms of "sidestepping" across spatial and temporal dimensions. It navigates between backstage and foreground, between labor and presentation, between audience and exhibition, drawing attention to the subtle realities within exhibition spaces. At the same time, it reflects on the presence of space itself—through spatial constructions, moving and still images, sound, and conceptual works, this exhibition attempts to bring forth what has remained absent in between the exhibitions.

王詠翔 WANG Young-Hsiang
1994年出生於臺灣。目前就讀國立臺北藝術大學新媒體藝術研究所。以觀念、空間裝置、現成物及影像為創作媒材，圍繞在空間的探討和實驗，是基於在地理、身份、場域等視野邊緣面對中心的想像。透過作品揭露在生活中太細碎而被忽略的事物，重新思考空間、界線和物件的意義。時常出現在作品中的反身性提問，也涉及權力、政治關係，形式背後是我們如何在此存在的社會關懷。旨在以自身經歷探問藝術與社會的疆界，並貼近生活的企圖。
曾獲2016年「視覺混種現場藝術祭」首獎，於2017年獲選「台北國際藝術村」駐村藝術家。展覽包括「島嶼隱身」（台北當代藝術館，2017）、「過度城市–工地解構學」（新樂園藝術空間，2019）、「臺灣雙年展平行展–技術變形記」（河南八號，2020）「透明的民族」（藝托邦藝術空間，2025）等。

楊佳璇
1982年生於台灣台南市，現定居、工作於台南，於台南藝術大學畢業後為自由藝評書寫工作者，持續於不同媒體平台發表藝評文章，2012年起以台南獨立展覽空間齁空間為基地，從觀察台南藝術生態出發，從事具備在地進駐實驗、本地與國際藝術家進駐交流協調與策展工作。
