§ 關於副島忍 §
副島忍將動畫定義為「使死亡重獲新生的力量」，並試圖創造一種可能的精神層面的願景。在日本的各種儀式中，木偶具有跨越死亡與生命、世俗與超凡脫俗的界限的功能。她將動畫的這項特性與木偶固有的精神屬性結合，玩弄生命與非生命。副島忍曾獲國內外多個電影節獎項，包括第68屆奧伯豪森國際短片電影節評審團特別提名獎、第22屆日本媒體藝術節評審團獎、Fantasia國際電影節、2018年東京藝術獎丸之內木村繪裡子獎。
現為東京藝術大學電影與新媒體專業博士生，並擔任多摩美術大學媒體藝術課程導師。
§ About Shinobu Soejima §
Shinobu Soejima produces video works, stopmotion animation films, photographs and sculptures. She defines animation as “the power to bring back from death to life”, and try to create a vision of a possible spiritual dimension.
In various rituals, puppets have the function of crossing the border between death and life, between the mundane and the otherworldly. By combining this characteristic of animation with the inherent spiritual properties of puppets, she plays with life and non-life.
Shinobu Soejima won several awards at domestic and international fi lm festivals, including the 68th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen Special Mention by Ecumenical Jury, the 22nd Japan Media Art Festival -Juryʼs prize, Fantasia International Film Festival, and Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi-Kimura Erikoʼs prize in 2018. She is currently a PhD candidate of Tokyo University of the Arts Film and New Media, and working as a tutor of Media Art Course at Tama Art University.
§ 葛文‧查爾斯 §
居住於紐約的跨領域藝術家 Gwen Charles（生於1975年），在其現場表演與融合雕塑、影像與動作的錄像作品中，經常以自身作為表演主體，探索女性經驗。她的表演多在非典型空間中進行，靈感來自日常物件、夢境意象與歷史參照，將現實與魔幻寫實元素交織，以反映日常生活中的荒誕性。近期作品探討人類世、生態女性主義、與自然重新連結、照護經驗，以及失落與哀悼等情緒，並以女性身體為載體呈現。
Gwen Charles 的工作室位於美國紐澤西州蒙特克萊爾歷史悠久的教會街。我意識到蒙特克萊爾座落於萊納佩民族未經割讓的傳統領地之上，並向萊納佩族的祖先與過去、現在與未來的族人致上敬意與尊重。
【藝術家自述】
我在攝影與錄像作品中，透過雕塑性道具、服裝與動作，探索女性經驗與人體需求的變化，這些創作延伸自1990年代初期的現場行為與表演藝術。我透過身體感知的動作回應與即興創作，並在合作與具社會參與性的表演中，探討個人、社會與環境層面的議題。
§ About Gwen Charles §
New York based multi-disciplinary artist gwen charles (b. 1975) interjects the performing body, often her own, as an exploration of the female experience in live performances and videos interweaving sculpture, video and movement. Performances, often in alternative spaces, take inspiration from everyday objects, dream imagery and historical references, merging elements of reality and magical realism to reflect on the absurdity of daily life. Recent works broach themes surrounding the Anthropocene, ecofeminism, reconnecting to nature, caregiving and feelings of loss and grief, all embodied by the female figure.
Gwen Charles has a studio in the historic Church Street Montclair, NJ, USA. I acknowledge that Montclair is situated on unceded traditional territories of the Lenape nation homeland. I honor and respect the Lenape ancestors and people of the past, present, and future.
【Artist Statement】
I explore the female experience and the changing needs of the human body in my photography and videos using sculptural props, costumes and movement, an extension of live performative happenings and actions beginning in the early 1990’s. I explore
personal, social, and environmental concerns through somatic movement response and improvisation in collaborative and socially engaged performances.
