Tahlequah Public Library is pleased to announce that thanks to a generous grant from Oklahoma Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities, we are hosting a "Let's Talk About It" discussion program!
Join us each month as experts guide us through each text and we discuss themes, historical context and revelations about the authors lives.
THEME: Oklahoma Private Investigations
The best crime and mystery novels are situated in “place.” As you will see from these varied plots, mystery and investigation stories find a ready home in Oklahoma and provide a window on the character of the state.
Program Scholar: Andrew Vassar
Dr. Andrew Vassar graduated from Chandler High School, then went to the University of Tulsa where spent his Junior Year Abroad in Cambridge, England to complete a double major in Art
History and English with a minor in Philosophy, making him a triple threat in some way! He earned his Master’s in English at the University of Oklahoma and Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas in American Literature with a focus on Native American Theater. He now teaches Modern and Ancient Cultures, Philosophy, and Comparative Religions to pay the bills. He taught for NSU at a sister university in China, and has been lucky enough to visit Turkey, Tunisia, Senegal, Japan and India on academic programs while also travelling on his own to Mexico, Korea, and Taiwan to understand those cultures. As the International scholarship director, he oversees the Fulbright, Gilman, Boren, and Critical Languages programs for faculty and students, having successfully guided now three Fulbright student candidates (two in a row!), a few faculty candidates, and the first visiting foreign Fulbright scholar. After serving on the Oklahoma Humanities Board of Trustees for 6 years, Dr. Vassar is still involved with its “Let’s
Talk About It, Oklahoma!” program.
