Catechist Commissioning

A Commissioning is a formal act of sending someone out to a specific ministry role, recognizing their gifts and calling for service. It involves the church's prayer, blessing, and affirmation, solidifying an individual's role in its mission.


Each time a Good Shepherd catechist completes Level I formation (100 hours of training), we offer them a commission ceremony. This special blessing assures them of our prayers and support as they live out their call to ministry—in this case, serving the children in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd—the atrium.


We experienced a delay in commissioning ceremonies during the pandemic. We will commission the following catechists on June 29 at the 11:00 am Mass at Saint Patrick Church:

Mary Reed
Lacie Vierra



Sara Mendoza and Jing Li are in the midst of their Level I formation; we'll have a commissioning ceremony for them upon completing their coursework.


Janelle, Ginny, Abby, and Lacie in Level II formation. Mary Reed is auditing level II; she completed level III training in 2024.
