The event will highlight the work of our Open Studio workshop led by Syracuse-based artist and Syracuse University graduate student Bennie Guzmán (G ‘25), MS candidate in Creative Art Therapy at SU's College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). Bennie has worked as La Casita's Programming Coordinator since 2018. In the team of instructors facilitating Open Studio, SU School of Architecture graduate Sofía Gutiérrez ('24) has organized a design workshop where kids are replicating her street vendor cart "El Carrito" in miniature size and will continue to develop the idea to create a lemonade stand for the summer!
La Casita's Danza Troupe will perform at the reception led by Syracuse University student Olivia Rojo Nava (G ‘24), who completed her MS in Biology, and brings a world of experience with baile folklórico from her native Mexico City.
Hailing from the Dominican Republic, La Casita's new Music Programming Coordinator, Santos Ciriaco, is an experienced guitar player and instructor. La Casita's music instructors include 2nd year Violin major in SU's Setnor School of Music, Amaya Tucker ('27); piano instructors Myra Bocage ('26), an advertising major at SU's Newhouse School, and Sebastián Escribano ('20) a graduate of the Setnor School of Music. In charge of the Drumming workshops is George Jackson, a student at Onondaga Community College (OCC), where he is majoring in Music Performance and Sound Recording.
We are ever so grateful for all our amazing instructors and volunteers, and for our partners at Syracuse University, the Central NY Community Foundation, and the John Ben Snow Foundation.
