Join us for the 17th session of the Syracuse Actors Studio on Monday, July 14th 7-10PM, which will be Film Acting with Sean Galuszka!
Sean is a CNY native with a degree and Acting & Directing from Syracuse University, also spending a semester abroad at the London Royal Studios studying classical theatre. Afterwards, Sean has acting experience both in NYC and in LA where he resides and has both extensive theatrical experience as well as television and film. He has performed a vast amount of Shakespeare as well as starring in and producing films that have even been considered for Academy Awards. He comes highly recommended as a teacher from several of our best SAS actors. We’re so excited to have him teach us film acting!
We will be, once again, at our new home in the McCarthy Mercantile, the lower level of Wildflowers Armory! The address is 217 South Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13202: on the corner of South Salina and East Fayette, right in the Heart of Downtown Syracuse. Wildflowers is closed Mondays, so we will enter through Jamaica Cuse, a Caribbean Restaurant that shares the same building. We will have a sign out front and Joe will be there in the beginning to welcome everyone and steer traffic. Feel free to buy food & drinks from our friends at Jamaica Cuse!
We are looking for monologues! Trying to fill 2 more spots. Looking for monologues preferably memorized and max 3 min in length. Please contact Joe if interested (

Sean’s method of teaching is “acting by doing” which is fantastic instead of a lecture and then demonstration/exercise, the main event of the session will be done during actual acting. We will set up a camera as if it were a real audition or performance and any actor who wishes to participate will put their name in a hat (because we won’t have time for everyone to perform). We will then draw names and those actors will have roughly a half hour to prepare their scripts while we do the monologues. Then Sean will bring those actors up one by one to act on camera, while he comments and teaches film acting!
There is a possibility that we will have a special guest - Siobhan Fallon Hogan, who, if she can join us, will be doing Q&A and a group photo from 7 sharp to 8PM, so don’t be late! We haven’t confirmed this yet but have been trying to line this up for months now.
As always, at the end we will have a small amount of time for announcements if anyone wants to plug a show, announce casting, or the like; with time after to network and socialize.
Also, instead of SAS After Hours, we will be filming a scene from Joe & Jay’s film “American Claudius.” (See iMDb for more info.) Anyone who wants to participate stay after to join the fun.
We will as always have a hat out for donations. To be up front, our new deal with McCarthy Mercantile/Washington Street Partners is we will donate half of the donations collected to our host as a thank you and keep half as a budget for future SAS supplies (waters, snacks, copies, incidentals, etc.).
We will meet at 7PM at Wildflowers lower level/The McCarthy Mercantile to socialize until we begin. Someone will be at the front entrance to greet you approx. 6:45 PM until around 7:15. Anyone lost or arriving late please call/text Joe Cunningham 315-863-9407.
Street parking at this time is free after 6PM.
Syracuse Actors Studio is always a free monthly meetup for actors where we learn from and practice acting with each other. Actors of all experience levels are encouraged to attend! Filmmakers, writers, playwrights, producers, casting agents, and observers are welcome as well.
