Last year we tried an acoustic set at the Tuppenny from indie-rock band Wild Isles. They smashed it, complete reinterpreting their songs to amazing effect (check out the songs from the set which have made it on to their YouTube channel). Since then they have floored audiences at The Shuffle, Swinterfest and their own headline shows. So, we thought we would do it again, this time at The Castle.
Seemingly named after those central shelves in Aldi where you can find woks and workboots, bird food and leafblowers sitting cheek-by-jowl...possibly...Wild Isles is the South West's slickest indie-rock outfit. Not just the slickest but the most infectious and incendiary band. Normally, you would expect riffs the size of a house, grooves that insist you dance, and more hooks than a Peter Pan convention, but this special show will once again find them in a more considered, stripped back acoustic mood.
Support from Plummie Racket. Former front man of his band "The Racket", Plummie has shared stages with many great artists such as Inspiral Carpets, Sham 69, Space, Chris Helme (Seahorses) Jonny Lloyd (Tribes) to name a few, which has seen him playing in venues all over the UK and in Europe for the last 15 years.
What was once a chaotic show with loud crashing guitars, the mood has shifted over the years and as a solo musician his sound has mellowed to light guitar playing accompanied by harmonica with clever intricate lyrics.
Live music from 8.30pm. Entry free but do bring cash for the artists tip jar.
