This two hour workshop will deepen our connection with our bodies, using Yoga Philosophy and Pain Care science to explore Proprioception, Interoception and Exteroception and their relationship with chronic illnesses and conditions, persistent pain and fatigue.
What is Proprioception, Interoception & Exteroception?
Proprioception is awareness of you body’s movement and action in space and allows you to walk without consciously thinking about where to place your foot next. Sensory receptors in your body work with the nervous system to create your perception of where your body is and how you are moving.
Interoception is an internal sensory system that signals conscious and unconscious emotional and physical stimuli and responds to it. For example, your tummy rumbles, you notice this is a signal that you are hungry and respond by eating something.
Exteroception detects stimuli located outside the body, this includes our senses (vision, hearing, touch, smell, taste) as well as temperature, pressure and pain.
During this workshop we will be delving into how these systems are linked, their relationship with persistent pain and fatigue as well as learning techniques to improve our overall wellbeing.
