Ruarri Joseph, frontman of the excellent indie rock trio William the Conqueror, is returning to his roots with a series of solo performances under his own name, and we're over the moon to have one of them!
Ruarri is keen to point out that WTC are absolutely not splitting up - they have shows with Bright Eyes this summer and will start recording their fifth album later this year. But Joseph is also grabbing the chance to fit in his first solo performances in 12 years and they include a return to the Sound Lounge, where the group played in both 2022 and 2023. We urge you not to miss this rare opportunity to experience the intimate, stripped-back performances that launched Ruarri's career.
Born in Edinburgh and raised in New Zealand, Joseph's musical adventures began in the UK, where he gained recognition as a solo artist with four albums released between 2007 and 2013. In 2015, he co-founded the band/art project William the Conqueror, who've won widespread acclaim for their fusion of bluesy grunge and Americana with anthemic British alt-rock, drawing comparisons to acts like Kings of Leon and Nirvana and touring worldwide to this day.
This upcoming solo tour offers a unique chance to witness Joseph's evolution as an artist, revisiting the raw, heartfelt performances that defined his early work. It's a testament to his enduring passion for connecting with audiences in an intimate setting.
"There are few more heartfelt and soul-baring writers in any medium today." - MOJO
"Dylan had he grown up in Cornwall." - NME
"One of our finest songwriters and lyricists." - Sunday Times
Ruarri's opening guest will be Matilda Finn Frances, an artist whose sound resonates with the gentle introspection of a life lived on the periphery, observing and reflecting on the world around her. Coolly arriving on the South West’s music scene at the end of last year, fully armed with a bewitching set of songs about “the spaces in between,” her beguiling voice and haunting melodies have been doing all the talking, leaving audiences (and rumour has it, record labels) spellbound.
