It’s hard to believe, but John Lennon would have turned 85 years old on October 9th. So we’re holding a very special birthday party for him! If you’ve ever loved John’s music, and who hasn’t, we really hope you’ll want to be part of it.
The evening is based around Iranian-born singer-guitarist Sepp Osley’s new, all-star album ‘Dear John (Collaborations),’ which features live interpretations of John’s immortal songs, from his solo and Beatles catalogues. Released on October 3rd, the album is inspired by the live concert film also titled ‘Dear John,’ which is presented by broadcasting giant (and Sound Lounge patron) Bob Harris, which premieres on YouTube on the very day of our event.
Featured artists on the album — mixed by Rush producer Terry Brown — include Peter Frampton, Graham Gouldman, PP Arnold, John Illsley (Dire Straits), Mollie Marriott, Laura Evans, Jo Harman, Cutting Crew’s Nick Van Eede, Luke Friend and Laura Jean Anderson. It also includes one of one of the final performances by Faithless vocalist Maxi Jazz.
Sepp, accompanied by some of his fellow band members, will perform selections from the album and we’re hopeful that some special guests will join them on stage. We’ll also be screening a special edit of the concert film and Osley will take part in a Q&A with music journalist and author Paul Sexton. The ‘Dear John (Collaborations)’ album will also be on sale on the night.
Sepp escaped war-torn Iran with his family as a young child in the 1980s, eventually settling in Canada after a tumultuous journey. Hearing John’s ‘Imagine’ for the first time while travelling through Turkey had a profound effect. “I was a young child with no bearings in Western culture, coming to it from a horrific situation,” he says. “I had no understanding of what John was singing, yet the sound of his piano and his voice went inside my soul and grabbed it. There’s something so powerful in how John translated his message to the world."
