Col Spector Is Coming To Sutton Filmmakers, Tuesday 17th February 🎬
If you’ve ever started a documentary thinking “we’ll work it out as we go”, and then ended up with hours of footage and no real film, this club night is for you.
We’re delighted to welcome Col Spector @thedocumentaryconsultant for a special talk where he’ll share his 8 Rules for Shooting a Documentary. It’s the stuff that makes the difference between a documentary that has direction, tension and meaning, and one that turns into a catalogue of scenes.
Col’s approach is practical, story focused, and honestly a bit of a relief, because it gives you something to hold onto when real life refuses to behave for the camera.
What you’ll get from the evening
• A clearer way to start a documentary with a point of view
• How to keep focus without scripting reality
• Why conflict and change matter, even in factual films
• How to shape a proper dramatic arc, before you hit the edit
There’ll be time for questions too, so bring your documentary idea, or the one you’ve already started and quietly panicked about.
Tuesday 17th February 2026
Doors open 7:30pm, start 7:45pm
