Holistic Healing Through Painting - An African Canadian Art Exhibition

KDocsFF Community Outreach invites you toKDocsFF & Salt City Advocacy Society Present: Holistic Healing Through Painting -- An African Canadian Art Exhibition to be unveiled on May 9, 2025 in the Spruce 100 Atrium.An art therapy initiative for immigrant and refugee seniors of African descent, the Holistic Healing Through Painting Project uses art therapy as a complement to traditional mental health treatments to help participants manage behaviours, process emotions, reduce stress, and enhance self-discovery. The program integrates physical, social, and cultural activities to promote healthy aging for seniors. Launched in June 2024 through the Salt City Advocacy Society, the project is commemorating its one-year anniversary with this exhibition for KPU and its communities.The May 9th launch of the Holistic Healing Through Painting exhibition will include

• African drumming with Jean Pierre Makosso;
• a keynote address from Salt City founder and KPU alumnus Sosa Eweka;
• a video presentation spotlighting the Salt City seniors and their artwork;
• a panel discussion/Q&A with the artists moderated by Sosa; and
• a reception to view the paintings and interact with the artists.
  
  The exhibition, installed in the Spruce Atrium from May 9th to May 30th, will feature 90 paintings — 3 per artist, all created within the last year. Join Holistic Healing Through Painting's launch event to discover what happens when the power of African migration stories meets art therapy.
