In celebration of World Anatomy Day, the University of Sunderland alongside Teesside, Durham and Newcastle universities are hosting a fun-filled anatomy event at The Fire Station, Sunderland, on 12 October 2025.
Not only will there be stands with lots of fun hands-on activities for families to take part in but there will also be stage shows for you to see how the wonderful world of anatomy works.
The day will be split in two with limited tickets available in both sessions, please do not book on both sessions. There are stage activities running in the morning and in the afternoon sessions.
The stage activities include:
Anatomy of a Superhero – a draw-along activity where participants discuss the anatomy of their imagined superhero.
Anatomy of Hearing – how music lights up your brain and makes you feel good.
Listen to your heart - watch and hear the heart working in real time.
The station activities include:
Overview of the human body – pin the organ on your grown up – guess where the organs are!
Special senses - use sensory equipment to explain the anatomy of how we hear the world around us.
Digestive System – A maze/assault course of the gastrointestinal tract.
Respiratory System – and breathe, and speak and sing!
Cardiovascular Anatomy – start a heart – the anatomy of CPR.
Musculoskeletal Anatomy – measure your own muscle strength and stretch your muscles.
Nervous System – use sensory equipment to understand how we perceive the world around us.
Musculoskeletal Anatomy – discover just how amazing your feet are!
Anatomy of Pregnancy and Newborns – How human anatomy changes during pregnancy and delivery.
Indiana Bones – examining the bones and teeth with an archologist.
