FREE public steaming event to celebrate our final public opening of 2025, where the spectacular Victorian waterworks will be operating under steam power and giving you the rare chance to see the1868 Victorian beam engines in action and working as they have done for 157 years!

We’re open on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October, with the added bonus of a classic car show (Sunday only), organised in partnership with Sunderland & District Classic Vehicle Society.

The former pumping station supplied water to Wearside for 100 years and our hard working volunteers have preserved the station as a working museum since 1971.

Well behaved dogs are welcomed onto the site. We have outdoor seating for you to enjoy a cuppa with spectacular views and water bowls to keep your pooches hydrated!
