Spooky Species of Theodore Payne: An ID Walk and Talk with Jason Wise

Join us Jason "Journeyman" Wise in the TPF gardens for this interpretative walk connecting California Native ecosystems to spooky themes that abound in nature. From creepy crawly bugs to poisonous plants and everything in between.For this all ages event, we'll highlight the mysterious animals who reside in and around Theodore Payne Foundation; owls, bats, slithering snakes, and coyotes that howl at night. We'll focus on native plant adaptations (both onsite and throughout California's landscapes; eerie fungi and plant species that are parasitic, toxic, with gnarled branches, peeling bark, or night blooming...oh my! Finally, we'll identify the variety of insects we come across and explore their characteristics we associate with the spookiest time of the year. Some can even turn you into a ghost if you get too close!In the spirit of the season, we welcome participants to wear any festive Halloween accessories or attire that won't inhibit your ability to walk. This class will be held outdoors, please dress accordingly and bring sun protection. Water and closed-toe walking shoes are strongly recommended. Jason "Journeyman" Wise is a certified California naturalist, advocate, avid tree hugger, and outdoor educator for kids of all ages. He teaches about native and invasive plants, connected ecosystems, human disruption, and the broader ecological history of California in locations like Yosemite, Santa Barbara, and currently Los Angeles.
