Osteoporosis, falls and fractures—a trio of health concerns that affect millions, especially as we age.
Dr. William Finch, MD will focus on the three types of falls, the relationship to osteoporosis, how to prevent falls and the risks associated with fractures. In addition, he will discuss the role of strength and conditioning as well as home safety, as well as the related issue of arthritis and lower back pain.
Osteoporosis is often called the “silent disease” because it progresses without symptoms until a fracture occurs. It weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break—even from a minor fall or bump. These fractures, especially in the hip, spine, and wrist, can lead to serious complications, loss of independence, and reduced quality of life.
Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults, and when combined with osteoporosis, the risk of fractures skyrockets. But here’s the good news: falls and fractures are not inevitable. With knowledge, prevention strategies, and early intervention, we can protect our bones and reduce our risk.
