Create your own Boro & Sashiko Japanese inspired textile sneakers

Patch it, match it, embroider and stitch it!!

Join me for a fun and creative workshop where you can design your very own Su-nii-kaa, Japanese inspired textile sneakers! Learn the traditional techniques of Boro (Japanese patchwork/visible mending) and Sashiko (straight stitch embroidery) to customise your sneakers and reflect your unique style.

IMPORTANT:

This workshop will take place over two seperate weekends to give you time to complete your hand-stitching inbetween, ie:

Day 1 - Sat, Nov 29 from 9AM to 3PM

Day 2 - Sun, Dec 14 from 10AM to 2PM (approx 10 hours total plus "homework")

Included:

Full DIY Maker Kit from @sneakerstitchau - including their Aussie step by step makers guide, correct size punches, grommets & grommet setter, easy to use sewing awl & waxed thread, shoelaces, interfacing and of course, the all important high quality, exclusive patented designed Sneaker Kit rubber soles. They are super flexible, have pre-punched holes, heal support, and come with an arch support insole. The PDF pattern comes with three different side height options, ie high top (think Converse) mid or low sneaker style.

The above kit needs to be pre-ordered for correct sole sizing and accessory colour choices, please complete the seperate form which will be mailed to you seperately.

Matching cotton thread and Sashiko needle for your hand-embroidery/Sashiko stitching will be provided in the Studio.

Tea/Coffee and some nibbles will be available to keep you fuelled.

What to bring:

Your own choice of fabrics.... 😁

• Minimum of one fat quarter or 25cm full bolt width of outer fabric. Recommended are looser weaves, such as linen, linen blend, cotton slub etc (easier for hand stitching your patches on). A few fabric patches of your choice (both new and vintage Japanese fabric patches are available for purchase at the Studio)
• Minimum of one fat quarter or 25cm full bolt width of lining fabric, preferably cotton (your feet will thank you for it) can be quilting cotton or cotton drill, to match/compliment/contrast your outer fabric.

Sewing machine - knowledge on how to operate your machine and how to do straight stitch sewing required.

Matching machine sewing thread/bobbin. Spare machine needles, universal (just in case..)

Scissors, cutters, pins and general sewing box supplies.

Experience level: Confident beginner (familiar with hand stitching and your sewing machine) to seasoned maker.
