Meaghan Smith’s sweetly smoky vocals flit over poppy vintage flavours in her newest digital releases. She’s on a roll with song placements, her music appearing all over Netflix and major TV networks alike. You can hear her tunes on shows ranging stylistically from Emily in Paris to Jimmy Fallon. And she’s not slowing down.
With her most recent musical adventure, Our Song, a custom songwriting enterprise, she and her HusBand (Jason Mingo) are constantly making and releasing music. "There’s endless inspiration in people’s lives," Smith says. "I feel lucky to be able to help put those moments into music for them."
She won the Juno for best new artist in 2011 and a smattering of ECMAs for best Pop Recording and Best Pop Video. Her debut album,The Cricket’s Orchestra, was nominated for the prestigious Polaris Prize. Oh, and her song Mirror, was a semifinalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Her talents don’t end there, though. Meaghan Smith is a prolific visual artist as well. She has been painting miniature oil paintings for years, having sold over 500 to date. They are colourful, tiny portraits of anthropomorphic animals. "I can’t do just one thing. I need the art to balance out the music, and the music to balance out the art," she explains. "I paint what I wish was real. And I write songs I wish existed."
