About the event

Sulphur Springs, TX City Council meeting to discuss AI data center
Dear City Council, Mayor, City Manager and all involved in the MSB AI data center project,
On behalf of Sulphur Springs, TX Preservation Alliance, we are writing to voice strong opposition to the proposed MSB Global data center until full transparency and independent review are provided.
While MSB Global presents this project as “clean” and “sustainable,” we find their claims highly improbable given current industry realities. Large data centers in Texas and across the U.S. consistently generate serious environmental and community impacts, including:
Noise pollution: Continuous low-frequency noise from cooling systems has been documented to travel up to 2–3 miles, disrupting sleep and causing stress, headaches, and other health issues for residents.
Traffic and diesel emissions: Construction and long-term operation bring heavy truck traffic, increased road wear, and harmful exhaust in neighborhoods not designed for industrial volumes.
Energy demand: A 100 MW building would consume the equivalent electricity of tens of thousands of homes, straining ERCOT and contributing to higher costs for ratepayers.
Water and air risks: Despite marketing slogans of “zero impact,” direct-to-chip and immersion cooling systems still depend on massive chillers, water use, and backup diesel generators—none of which are emission-free.
Credibility concerns: Public records show little evidence of verifiable experience among MSB Global’s team members. Their marketing makes bold claims, yet there is no independent validation of their environmental promises or project capacity.
Our community deserves better. Before any approvals are granted, we request:
A comprehensive, independent Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) covering noise, air quality, traffic, water, and energy use.
Public hearings to ensure residents’ voices are included in the decision-making process.
Full disclosure of company qualifications, financing, and environmental data, verified by third parties.
Binding guarantees that costs will not be shifted to local residents in the form of higher electric bills, road repairs, or healthcare burdens and binding guarantees of clean energy claims.
We support responsible and transparent economic growth. But at present, MSB Global has not proven that this project will avoid the harms already documented at similar sites across Texas and beyond. Until independent evidence—not corporate marketing—demonstrates otherwise, we urge you to pause approvals and protect the health, environment, and financial well-being of our community.
I am a proud resident of this community. Like many of my neighbors, I believe our community deserves economic development that reflects who we are—hardworking families who value safety, integrity, and the peaceful character of our town.
The tranquility and beauty of Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County are not just part of our identity; they are why people choose to live here. These qualities are what make our community different from a noisy industrial hub or sprawling urban corridor.
I know this firsthand because I made the choice to move back home. I wanted to raise my children in the same safe, welcoming environment that shaped me—one where families can sleep peacefully, enjoy open skies, and feel secure in the place they call home.
Growth can and should happen in Sulphur Springs. But it must be growth that matches our values, strengthens our community, and protects the quality of life we cherish.

Respectfully,

Jaime Mitchell
On behalf of Sulphur Springs, TX Preservation Alliance
