Ribbon Cutting for Enhancements to the Mayo River Rail Trail

Join us as we celebrate with a ribbon cutting to highlight all the great trail enhancements that have been added to the Mayo River Rail Trail. The Appalachian Gateway Community Initiative group, which comprises the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, Patrick County Tourism, Reynolds Homestead, Town of Stuart, Dan River Basin Association volunteers, Master Naturalists, and Bull Mountain Arts, have worked this past year creating enhancements to our Mayo River Rail Trail. The Patrick County Chamber of Commerce installed a Free Little Library, donated by the McConnell’s and with help from Dan River Basin Association's Eco Ambassadors installed River Rangers buckets. This program is to encourage young ecologists to explore and discover life in the river. Virginia Master Naturalists’ Norma Bozenmayer and Julie Currier have planted a Pollinator Garden. This garden is full of native flowering plants that create the perfect habitat for local pollinator species. Bull Mountain Arts worked with local artists to create a mural which was installed on the kiosk at the end of the river section of trail. The image depicts native black bears enjoying their surroundings that are part of our communities. We will be hosting a ribbon cutting to celebrate all these new improvements on Saturday October 18 at 10:30AM in the parking lot off Commerce Street, by the river. Join us as we celebrate the enhancements and work toward the expansion of the trail.
