The CGC is a 10-skill training and evaluation program developed by the American Kennel Club (AKC), designed to encourage well-mannered dogs and responsible pet ownership. It covers skills such as greeting strangers politely, loose-leash walking, reaction to distractions, and more.
Curriculum: Covers all 10 test items—friendly greetings, grooming/combing tolerance, loose-leash walking, crowd handling, sit/down/stay, coming when called, reacting appropriately to other dogs and distractions, and a brief supervised separation.
Vaccination Records: Expect to provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations (distemper/parvo, rabies, Bordetella)
Behavioral Expectations: Dogs must be non-aggressive; any growling, snapping, or biting leads to dismissal
Training Environment: Classes are held in group settings with distractions to simulate real-life public situations
