About the event

Sea level rise submergence simulations indicate substantial deterioration of Indian River Lagoon eco
Join us in our Water Ambassador webinar to learn about sea level rise in the Indian River Lagoon and its impacts on ecological health. Dr. Randall Parkinson and his research team at the Florida International University have developed an online geospatial tool to evaluate the effects of sea level rise called Future Shorelines ( https://futureshorelines.fiu.edu/home/). In this webinar, Dr. Parkinson will discuss his research on developing and using this tool and how it can aid us in predicting and mitigating the effects of sea level rise in the Lagoon.

Dr. Randall W. Parkinson is a coastal geologist specializing in the effects of climate change and urbanization on the built and natural environment. He is a Registered Professional Geologist (P.G.) with more than 40 years' experience working along the coasts of the US southeastern and mid-Atlantic, Costa Rica and Wider Caribbean.

Dr. Parkinson's research interests are focused on the effects of past, present, and future sea level rise on the inner continental shelf, barrier islands, indigenous shell works, tidal and freshwater wetlands, oyster bioherms, lagoons and estuaries. Dr. Parkinson is also experienced in conducting vulnerability assessments of the built environment and preparing adaptation action plans for coastal areas subject to climate change stressors (i.e., sea level rise, increasing storminess).
