Free lantern making workshop - Hāwera

Decorate your clothes, bikes, scooters—even wheelbarrows! Bring lanterns, torches, and DIY light-up creatures, then gather outside Te Ramanui o Ruapūtahanga at 6pm on June 19th for a dazzling parade through town.

To help you prepare, we’re offering free lantern-making workshops, thanks to support from the Creative Communities Fund. Whether you need guidance on basic construction or have the skills to craft a large-scale glowing masterpiece with wings, we welcome your creativity!

Spot prizes will be awarded for the clever, the original, and the downright wacky. Don’t just attend—be part of the magic!

Workshops will provide some materials, but we encourage you to bring along extra LED lights, glue guns, scissors, sticks, masking tape, strong sticks, and lightweight fabric to make your lantern uniquely yours.
