Stonington Granite in the World: Now Expanding the New York Historical Society

Please join the Granite Museum as we host very special guests Roy Moskowitz, Edward Eglin, and Ann Marie Ramos in a presentation on how Stonington granite is currently being quarried for an expansion of the The New York Historical on Central Park West in NYC.

The New York Historical is celebrating the 250th birthday of the U.S. by erecting a brand new, 70,000 sf wing designed by Robert A.M. Stern and incorporating Stonington granite; an expansion intended to "serve as a beacon for democracy education, a powerhouse of inclusive history, and a home for history enthusiasts of all backgrounds and perspectives."

Mr. Moskowitz is the project manager for the expansion and a long-time summer resident of Deer Isle. Mr. Eglin is an architect with a lifelong interest in geology and the Vice President and Director of Business Development for Swenson Stone Consultants managing the project's design and construction. Ms. Ramos is the CFO for Granites of America, owners and operators of Stonington's Crotch Island Quarry.

The New York Historical's Tang Wing for American Democracy will serve as home for The New York Historical's Academy for American Democracy and Dorothy Tapper Goldman Center for Teaching Democracy. The top floor of the new wing will be home to the first-ever American LGBTQ+ Museum.
