Stoke versus Lichfield: Claiming Captain Smith of the Titanic
Why is the statue of Hanley-born Captain Smith of the Titanic situated in Lichfield? Should it be re-located in Stoke, or should there at least be a copy in the Potteries? Or is Captain Smith still - to quote one author - "A Hero Who Embarrassed the Potteries?"

Local historian Mervyn Edwards will present a Mervyn’s Mondays history talk entitled Stoke versus Lichfield: Claiming Captain Smith of the Titanic at the Victoria Lounge Bar, Adventure Place, Hanley on Monday, July 28th.

It starts promptly at 11 am & the admission is £4, pay on the door
