In "Cassandra’s Escape", visitors step into a hidden room where a towering sculpture rises from earth to sky. The air hums with subtle sound — fluttering wings, heartbeats, whispers, and the song of nightingales. Along the walls, glass flasks hold wax, feathers, wings, twigs, thread, and fragments of text — small vessels of memory and imagination, grounded in the natural world yet reaching beyond it. Above, moving images trace moments of transformation: hands entangled with threads and wings, shifting Cassandras poised in mid-flight. Together, these elements create a sanctuary of reflection, revealing Cassandra’s journey through stillness, resistance, and the yearning to escape.
Joanne Grüne-Yanoff is an interdisciplinary artist whose poetic practice reimagines the myth of Cassandra — a grounded figure whose gaze is forever lifted skyward. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Woodmere Art Museum, Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Free Library of Philadelphia, Region Västernorrland, Region Kalmar, Apotekets Konstförening, Handelsbankens Konstförening, Judisk Kultur i Sverige, and Alma Löv Museum.
