About Police Dog Finn:

In 2016, Police Dog Finn from Hertfordshire Constabulary was stabbed in the line of duty while protecting his handler from an armed suspect. Following the incident, the offender could only be charged with criminal damage, as there was no specific law to protect service animals. Finn’s handler, PC Dave Wardell, launched a national campaign to give greater protection to service dogs, aptly named #FinnsLaw.

Finn’s story was heard around the world, and after a three-year campaign, including an appearance on Britain's Got Talent, Finn’s Law was granted Royal Assent on April 8, 2019, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Finn’s Law makes it a specific offence to cause unnecessary suffering to a service animal

Sadly, Police Dog Finn passed away on July 28, 2023, aged 14. He left behind a huge legacy, one that ensures police dogs and handlers across the United Kingdom can serve knowing they are fully protected by law.

To pay tribute to Finn’s incredible life and legacy, the foundation launched an appeal to commemorate him with a memorial, raising over £50,000 from the public in just 48 hours. The memorial will be unveiled in Buntingford, Hertfordshire, the town where Finn lived and the county where he served with distinction.

Further updates will be posted closer to the event.
