Freddie Bosham, son of the Earl of Middlewick, wants to marry Phyllis Jackson, but needs to raise money to be able to marry her. He hires Psmith, who is ready to do any job (including crime!), to come to the family's country house and steal his stepmother's diamond necklace, but they find that others are after the necklace, too.
